What if...
After J.J. Abrams made the new Star Trek, I decided to watch the originals. As I watched episode four I noticed allot of events that appeared in the movie such as a dying planet, antimatter, fencing, a frozen planet, and time. Bu one thing stuck out more than everything. (mainly because I am a Lost fanatic) Is that as the clock went in reverse, it stopped on the number 108. I don't know about you, but a director who doesn't use coincidence in any of his works, seems to have left something mighty coincidental. (or is it) One thing it seems that Abrams believed is that the past can't be changed. (don't ask how I made that work with Star Trek, which I did). But it seemed that in season 5 of Lost, the character went back in time just to cause the incident that crashed them there in the first place. But I heard a theory that Jacob who had died in the last episode, sent them back to save him. I thought that he failed or didn't under stand that you couldn't change the past. I would have hated it if Abrams contradicted himself. But then when I finished "The Naked Time" Episode four of the original Star Trek, I thought of something. In that episode, they had to escape the planets atmosphere, in the process, they had an internal, and external combustion occur at the same time. This caused them to go back in time. Not Just back in time, but it caused time to reverse. Imagine everything rewinding. This is different than before on Lost because they jumped through time instead of rewinding. Like rewinding a tape you recorded. You can record over it, and from that point on changes the future, that doesn't exist yet. That on Lost could save Jacob. It isn't modifying time. It is rewinding it and having it play out differently. Why would it play out differently? Because the characters (like in Star Trek) remembered it all. The greatest similarity of all is that at the end of season 5 of Lost a hydrogen bomb went off in the middle of an electromagnetic surge that was causing an implosion. Exactly the same conditions in Star Trek that triggered the rewind. I am probably not right, but all these coincidences are just to much for me to handle.
Sincerely,
Samuel Black
